Confusion

Trapped on a checkered board you notice you're in the middle of the chess board. You've barely played chess before and it makes you nervous knowing that when a piece is captured it is destroyed, almost like in the movie //**Harry Potter**//. How do you know that, well you've been witnessing the entire beginning of the game and you haven't been moved yet. It seems hopeless and you're terrified. What to do [[now]]? Look for more [[**Clues**->Clues]] to find out how you got here Find out the basic [[**Rules**->Rules]] of chess Try to [[**Run**->Run]] out of the board.

You know you're the queen and vaguely remember what her piece does, you also seem to have a **headache** from being constantly confused by the [[checkered board]]. You know you need to escape and get out somehow, in means of playing some chess or other ways. You also just [[remember]] playing some chess with your brother and constantly moving the queen in all sorts of directions.

You look around yourself and notice that you're the only human on the board. It seems quite strange, however, you're playing a computer. You also notice that the first moves seem quite strange and incorrect. The following position has been played <img src="http://www.thechesswebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/fried-liver-attack-big.jpg" align="middle"> You are also white, and its black to move. This position has been played before between you and your brother. But what black plays next is unexpected for you. Which is the move [[D5]]. What does this mean to you?

They are quite simple. Protect your King Don't Give Pieces Away Control the Center of the Chessboard Use All of your Chess Pieces Go Back [[Let's Play]]

It hurts, as you try to run out of the game you notice you're stuck. Almost as if you're glued to the board. Don't panic, perhaps just play the game. Go back [[Let's Play]]

By watching how the queen moves, you notice it that the queen is the most powerful piece. She can move in any one straight direction - forward, backward, sideways, or diagonally - as far as possible as long as she does not move through any of her own pieces. And, like with all pieces, if the queen captures an opponent's piece her move is over. You vaguely remember that you have several good options: [[ExD]] [[BxD]] [[0-0]] Even though this does not look like three options they come from a chess language that you have once seen in a [[book]]. It is **important** you play the right move.

What you remember are only a few things as listed below as well as an image. A good Move, you are forcing the computer into the right direction, a losing position. Lets see what happens: ExD5 (click: "ExD5") [<img src ="http://i.imgur.com/DU5BOYG.png">] The computer immediately replies with NxD5 as seen in the position. You feel the floor beneath you move and understand that it'll be your turn very soon, but just before this occurs you need to set a nasty trap for the computer. The trap isnt as simple as you'd [[think]]

Let's see what happens: BxD5 (click: "BxD5") [<img src= "http://i.imgur.com/2VWkVwB.png", height="500" width="500">] Once again the computer immediately replies with NxD5 but something went deeply [[wrong]].

Pathetic. This move just drops a bishop. Once again, I understand that king safetly was definetly a important factor in this move but, don't let your opponent capture your pieces so quick. <img src ="http://i.imgur.com/hhjaBEn.png">

He has a discovered attack on your knight with his queen. Remember the [[Rules]] of chess? (click: "chess") [**Don't give pieces away!**] If you continue like this, you'll get nowhere. In fact, theoretically the position is losing, and you know your headache will only get worse if this continues.

It requires some prep knowledge that you can find with some patience. (click: "patience") [A positional Sacrifrice! NxF7, what does this do? well if the king does not accept the knight you get the queen or rook, which will make you the winner of the game, hence the king is forced to take (KxF7) and the battle continues with the queen.The Question is [[how?]]] (click: "NxF7") [<img src ="http://i.imgur.com/VLfKpAu.png">]

Queen Check! But you have two! Qf3+ (click: "Qf3+") [Great, I guess you're slowly getting the game - Your characters feet now magically move to f3 and you now stuck on a new square but you're making progress.] Qh5+ (click: "Qh5+") [Not so good, it doesn't achieve anything after the move KG8, unfortunate, where was the previous knowledge?] Select carefully only one, since only one will fork the king and the knight. Which Results in a forced move where the computer needs to play with the king which is [[Ke6]] (click: "Ke6") [<img src ="http://i.imgur.com/rU9oBME.png">]

Ke6 should have been played. But what the computer picks ends up being quite a surprise for you. (click: "surprise") [The computer plays **Kg8!**, you can win now. Since you're attacking the knight twice, with the bishop and queen you can take with either piece. However, remember that you are the queen and losing her in the game means losing you. So - [[Bxd5]] or [[Qxd5]]] (click: "Kg8") [<img src= "http://i.imgur.com/nCXfEaB.png">]

Checkmate, but you could have done better. The computer resigns. He could of continued for two more moves, going for QxQ and a bishop blocking but he's had enough. Luckily for you becuase had he, you'd not be on the board. Qxd5 (click: "Qxd5") [<img src="http://i.imgur.com/S6Q9uxU.png">] But [[Bxd5]] would of been smoother.

The computer has just resigned and leaves behind a note. Now you feel that your feet are free to move, they untagle from the checkered board and you move walk aroung, looking for answers asking yourself what was this nonsense. You still don't understand why you're there. [[Note]] [[answers]] (Display: "checkered board")

You walk around and notice that in the very far back of the checkered board there is a door. You run towards it as quickly as you can, so that you can open it. [[Door]]
